Word won't run anymore

User Profile corruptions can be very difficult to diagnose and many moons
ago I learnt not to bother even trying as I have never had any luck.
Typically, in your profile you have templates (including the important
global template - normal.dot) plus temp folder and registry entries.
Starting Word in Safe Mode eliminates most of those as they are bypassed
when testing in Safe Mode. So all the usual suspects are not guilty.

All I can suggest is as you are doing; create yourself a new profile and
then copy across all your important data. When you are happy that you have
got all that you will need, delete the old profile.

The question is though, why are so many users suffering corrupt profiles!

No...I didn't create a new profile...I really didn't have time. I needed to
get to my documents. I read where some users did that on the other tech
sites.
I did a system restore back 2 weeks and recovered my Word.
Do you know if there is some way to make Microsoft aware of this problem?

They are collecting data on the problem from calls logged to them directly.
One suspect being investigated is that automatic windows updates running
whilst Word has been left up and running may cause the problem. I suggest
setting the Windows Update to Download and Notify rather than letting it run
wild.

Well...thanks for the input! At least we know they are investigating and
trying to fix it.
In my case... I do have my updates set to download and notify. I always
check them out before downloading. And, I always close out ALL programs
before downloading because I know a restart will be required. Could have
slipped and worked on something while downloading, but don't think so.
I sure hope they come up with the cause/fix soon, 'cause i'm on pins and
needles anticipating it to pop up again! I can't do without Word!
