Word XP crashes after macros are added

I have been using XP for years and while I am not an expert I usually can
figure things out, but this one has me stumped. I use my macros to record
addresses I use frequently. Up until yesterday I was able to add them,
change them, etc. with no problems. Yesterday, it allowed me to manipulate
macros, add and change, but when I go to close out of Word the program
crashes (tells me its saving my documents) and when it opens up the changes I
made to the macros are lost! This is a BIG deal in my line of work and it
is very time consuming to have to look up addresses for each letter I do.
Any help would be appreciated.

TIA - Kristin

You do not need macros for this: that is the hard way. I assume that you
have only Word and not Outlook with its Contact List? In which case, you
need to save the address as AutoText.

See http://word.mvps.org/faqs/customization/AutoText.htm and

http://word.mvps.org/faqs/tblsfldsfms/AutoTextList.htm

I have literally hundreds of addresses saved as Macros. I do use autotext
entries as well, but more for speed typing (if that makes sense). It would
take FOREVER for me to change all of my macros over to autotext. Is there
any other option. I have used word for 10+ years (different versions of
course) and this has never happened. I would really like to continue the same
way I am, at least until I get time to rebuild. Any suggestions.

Thanks!! - Kristin

I am concerned that it may be a corruption in the template. Where do you
save you macros with the addresses? I would recommend saving them to their
own template and making it a global add-in (and backing it up regularly).
However, I don't think it is the best approach to start with: AutoText
(using its own template) or better still, a contacts database in Excel or
Access would have been more robust. If you have Access, I am sure that one
of the VBA guys would find a way of automating exporting the macros into
Access.
