Word XP Create caption to right of item.

I'm creating a custom caption in Word XP, after making the
caption I only have the option to place it above or below
the captioned item. Is there a way to create a caption
beside the captioned item?
TIA

These are Equation captions and I have a few hundred in
the document. Is there any way to set it up with the auto
caption function?

The usual suggestion is to create the table, put a dummy equation in the
left cell, the caption in the right, and save it as an AutoText entry.
Insert as needed. For that many equations, though, you might want to upgrade
to MathType (www.dessci.com), which has a built-in feature that allows you
to caption the equations properly. I believe Design Science still has a free
trial version of MathType available. If you decide not to buy it at the end
of the trial period, you are left with a superior version of Equation Editor
(with which you can still edit the equations you produced with MathType).
