Word XP Document Seems Way Too Huge!

Hey all...Don't know if this is the right group or not, but here goes...

My wife has a document from her school that is a "blank" template for a
form. It's in .doc format. It's only 1 page in length, but it takes up way
over 1 MEG in disk size!

Down at the bottom left corner it says "Page 9" although the "page counter"
says "1/1". We've tried going to File>Properties and checking to see if
there is anything out of the ordinary there...nothing.

Is there something we're missing? Ideas, anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

Thanks!

There are a number of reasons for excessive file size, including:

1. Fast Saves: Disable this at on the Save tab of Tools | Options.

2. Preview Picture: Clear the check box on the Summary tab of File |
Properties.

3. Versions (File | Versions): Make sure "Automatically save version on
close" is not turned on.

4. Revisions (Tools | Track Changes):
Highlight Changes: Make sure "Highlight changes on screen" is turned on.
Accept/Reject Changes: If "Accept All" or "Reject All" is available then
revisions are present; accept or reject all changes, then turn Track Changes
off.

5. Embedded True Type fonts (Tools | Options | Save); embedding fonts should
be avoided wherever possible.

6. Embedded graphics: When feasible, it is preferable to link the graphics.

7. Document corruption: See

Thanks a million, Suzanne! The document had embedded fonts turned on. Took
that off, saved again, went from over 1 meg down to 28K! Great help! Thanks
again!

I would have bet on document/template corruption since embedded fonts are so
rare, but I'm glad you got it sorted.
