Work Availability and Remaining Availability

J

John

I am trying to create capacity a spreadsheet by extracting weekly Work
Availability and Remaining Availability using either a visual report
or through VBA code into Excel. I tried both options and the data
comes back as 0. However, I see the data in the Resource usage view
but copying and pasting does not include resource name or headings.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this information?

Hi John,

Did you try using the Resource Work Availability report? It shows what
I blieve you are searching for -- each resource and his/her scheduled
work and remaining availability for the time period shown (quarterly,
weekly, daily).

As to the issue of data coming back as zero 0 -- are you using a
resource pool?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thanks for your response. I am using a Resource Pool and tried the
Resource Work Availability report. However, the Time Weekly Calender
field is only giving me the options to display Year 2007, QTR 2, Week
23 and Week 24. Is there another time field I should be using or is
there a reason why this I am only getting data from weeks 23 and 24.

You're welcome John. Are your resources assigned to tasks other than in
week 23 & 24?

Yes, the resources have tasks assigned until 12/25/07. I also created
the report through a Master Project File and the weeks spand
throughout the year but Work Availability is "7" for week 23 and "0"
for all other weeks. I also executed the report while in the Resource
Pool file view and only weeks 23 and 24 are displayed with a "7" for
week 23 and a "0" for week 24.

Hello John,

Sorry for the delay. I'm sorry to say this, but in testing, I have been
able to reproduce what I think you are seeing. When I created a
resource pool file and shared those resources to several projects, I got
*very* inconsistent data when trying to report from both the pool file
and the consolidated project file. When I opened just the pool file
without the other project files opened, I only saw a few weeks worth of
data when I had assignments into the next 3 years. If I created the
consolidated project file (opening the pool file and all other files
into a sharer file) I was able to view 3 years of Work data however the
Work Availability and Remaining Availability fields were all zero, just
as you report.

The only way I could get the data to work consistently is to create the
master project file by opening the pool file and all other files into a
sharer file and then unlinking the master project from the inserted
project files. Then all the data appeared normally.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
