Work breakdown structure codes

Is there any way to set the wbs to use 100 200 etc. rather than 01 02. We
need to be able to add new tasks but keep in a numerical order for projects
we use.

Hi Waynett,

There is a "sort - of" work around. When you define the custom mask for the
WBS field (Project > WBS > Define Code) set the first row of the WBS Code
Definition dialog box to:

Sequence: Characters (unordered)
Length: Any
Separator: (pick one you prefer)

Second row:
Sequence: Numbers (ordered)
Length: Any
Separator: (pick one)

As you enter the summary level tasks you will need to enter the 100, 200,
etc. The subtasks of each summary task should now inherit the number you
typed in and follow with numbers in sequence. So, for example: if you
create the Code Definition and enter 100 for the first summary task, the
subtasks will be 100.1, 100.2 etc.

You will need to type in the number sequence for each summary task (to
replace the * in the code field).

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

I had sort of found that before you responded. I am still having a problem.
I can change the first * to 100 and the next task to 200 but then WBS
automatically enters codes from that point on using the 200.plus the rest of
the set code. I need to be able to change the * the whole way through the
project. Why is it not letting me?

Hi Waynett,

If the tasks after the 200 task are subtasks of the 200 task, they will
automatically inherit that 200 task outline level. (for example: 200.1,
200.3) If those tasks should be 300, 400 etc, try outdenting the tasks
under the 200 task outline.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
