Work Contour Problems

Has Anyone notice with auto leveling off and all the resoucres "max %" is
allocated to 10000 that if you change the work contour when it is on fixed
duration and NOT effort driven it will change the work. if you then fix the
work then the changes the duration? if anyone else has found this problem
please tell me and if there is any way to fix this. I have tryed talking to
Microsoft and have been on hold for over 3 hours on more than 3 occassions.

Kind regards

HI,

This is by design. Think of an uncontured assignment of 10 resources at
40h/w each for a duration of 1week. Total hours are 400. Now fix duration
and give a bell contour. Project obeys your ruling of a maximum of 10
resources, but since the beginning and end of the task must be far fewer
than 10 resources (to produce a bell curve) then the work has to change. If
it didn't, you would end up with more than the max units in the middle of
the curve which is not realistic.

Thanks for the reply Rod

Dont disagree with you rob but if i have lock the duration that implys that
the "units" and "work" are unlocked and if is set the durationd and the set
the Work contour the logical way to achieve the Units should be straight
Maths (Work / (duration * STD day ))=% Units required so why does when it
give the corect answer flat countour

i will give an example if i have an activity that is 5 days long at 8 hrs a
day. i apply a resoucre in the the resoucre sheet and i have 5 guys. The
task is 100 hrs of work. Men require on flat work countour is 2.5. i then go
to task usage and change the countour to Bell and it cuts the hours allocated
to 50. why? i have the ability to have a peak of 500 % in units or 40 hrs of
work in a day but is locks it on 250% units or 20 hrs work. even when it is
unlocked.

I want to know why? if you have the exact answer that would be great but i
have heard that answer as if it is a user error when it is a program error
