What is the significance in saving something as a Workgroup Template? And
what differntiates .pot from .ppt?

Thanks

Template (.pot) is a formatting layer where you define all the standards such
as size of the title and the background of presentation. This is where you
control how the presentation will generally look like. You can choose what
template you want under Format > Slide Design. After which you can edit them
in the Slide Master (View > Master > Slide Master). You can also create your
own template or download new templates from Microsoft online and other sites.
(Check this out for more explanation on Template:

Presentations are saved as .ppt files in default. This is how you are going
to save your work for presentations. You can also save it as a PowerPoint
show (.pps) which goes into the Slide Show immediately once you open the
file. Hope that helps.

Just so you know, they work similarly. Nevertheless, you can also save your
presentation as a design template. But when you are to resave your work, you
will always be prompt to save it as a normal presentation or other formats.
