Works Vs. Office

Hi. If all I want to do is Word processing is Works just
as good as Word that comes with Office? I saw a new
version of Works is coming out soon, Works 8.0. Looks
like they've improved Works alot even adding a new
dictionary tool which I hope activates the Outlook
Express spell checker and it also has added an auto-save
feature.

Sorry to disappoint you, but it won't. OE requires an Office grade
application to be installed, Works does not count. If, however, you were to
buy the next release of the Works /Suite/, which includes Word, then, yes,
you would acquire spellcheck in OE.

I read that some older versions of Works 6.0 and 4.5a did
activate the spell checker and Microsoft dropped it in
Works 7.0, I could be wrong about 6.0 and 4.5 versions.
I thought they would bring it back in 8.0 with that new
dictionary tool. Is this a standard thing in Outlook
Express that you need Office or Office programs to
activate Outlook Express spell checker?

Yep. There are some freebie checkers out there (Google for them) but I've
never had need to use them, so I can't vouch for they efficacity.

I just purchased a new computer with the lates version of winXP. My computer came preloaded with Office, as a 90 day trial. What are the basic differences between this software package (and cost) vs. Works 2002. It appears that Office has Power Point, Excel and other office type programs, but I don't use those. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Re Cost ... Works is significantly less expensive than Office.

Frankly, if you don't use PowerPoint, Excel, and other Office type
programs, you may not need them. Your lack of use vs. your need is your
own question to ask and answer.
