Wrong date format for Mail Merge in WORD/2002 using EXCEL/2002

I have a user that runs a Merge merge in Word/2002 +sp3 using excel/2002 as a
data source on the Win/XP computer. Excel, Word and the PC are setup to use
the date format of dd/mm/yyyy. The result of the mail merge is that the field
is inserted with the date format of "mm/dd/yyyy".
The same word document with the same data source when run on an WIn/2k
computer works fine. I know that it looks like a problem with the setting of
the Regional Date, but I am happy this this has been set correctly.
Any ideas what the problem may be??

Problem resolved. It is a "feature" of Mail Merge that all dates are imported
to the Word document in US American format. To switch the date back to UK
format you have to use the Format Merged Data using switch formatting on all
date fields. If you Alt and F9 you will see the MergeFormat Field on your
Word document. If you type \@"dd/MM/yyyy" at the end of the field the date is
displayed in that format. NB type as seen i.e with quote marks and the month
format must be in upper case for it to work.
I only needed to do this on a Win/XP machine.
