Xchange server 5.5 and Entourage: is it possible???

W

Wolfgang

One of our tech support people said Entourage will only work with
Xchange server 2000 (which we don't have yet) and that it won't work
with our current version of Xchange server (which I believe is 5.5).

We are finally upgrading all apps and the OS to Panther (from OS 9)
and this represents a huge setback.

Is that true? Is there any way around this?

I appreciate any help -- I didn't find any specific information on the
MS support site, and, even though I am very proficient with a lot
that goes on on my Mac, the server thing really goes over my head. It
is hard to get reliable information from my company.

Thank you very much!

I am in the same boat as you. The mail portion of it will work but
Calendaring and Contacts will not. When you receive a meeting request it
will just look like an email but you can not accept it so no calendaring in
that way. Also The contacts folder will not show all details of your
contacts.

I should get Panther, today.
Outlook for OS9 seems to run as well in Classic, Jaguar, as it ever did in
OS9, which is still nowhere near Windows functionality. I have noticed that
Panther Mail claims two significant Exchange compatibilities.

Mail app on Panther supports Exchange but unfortunately same as Entourage
only Exchange 2000 is supported. Last I checked there was a bug there where
I could not see the content of my Inbox but could see all folders under the
Inbox and what was in the folders.

As far as I've heard, you can still use it if IMAP is enabled on the
Exchange server. No way to get addresses and calendars to synchronize
though. I haven't tested that myself.
