XL 2007 : File Error : Data May have been lost

I

Ian Robert

Hi,

I have a client with a spreadsheet that keeps "corrupting" with the error
"Data may have been lost" when opening the file. Incidently the corrupt file
is .xls file and cannot be opened by Excel 2003 only Excel 2007.

Running on Windows Vista, Office 2007. On Opening the file the error is
"File Error : Data may have been lost" and the formula "Eomonth() " gets
replaced with "=#N/A".

I wasn't sure what was causing this, so I copied all the worksheets to a new
workbook and saved that as a new file. The error went away and then replaced
all the =#N/A with the correct formula's and saved again. The file opened a
couple of times ok...but then the error has returned in this new file.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Regards

Ian

I have the same problem.

Some add-in pack functions (like EOMONTH) are standard in Excel 2007. See
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912719. For some reason, when you save the
file in 97-2003 format (.xls), these ATP functions are corrupted. For some
reason, although this is highly frustrating to users, this does not seem to
be a big problem to Microsoft.

When you save the 2007 file (*.xlsx) in 97-2003 format (*.xls), the

In looking back on this thread, I see that these questions are specific to
Windows Excel. This is a newsgroup for Excel for Mac. Please post to the
Windows Excel newsgroup and someone will hopefully be able to help you
there.

Thanks,

I believe you've gotten into the wrong group - this one is for the Mac
version of Excel. Also, this thread is one that got fairly off-topic. It
originally pertained to saving from Excel 2008 into the older 97-2004 file
format & its effect on certain functions. The problem has since been
corrected by updates to Office 2008 (Mac) & has no bearing on the 2007/2003
Windows versions of Excel.

If you're experiencing problems with Excel in Office 2003 or 2007 the PC
Excel newsgroups can be accessed via this link:

Are you having this problem in Mac Excel or Windows Excel? We have been able
to reproduce the problem in Windows Excel, but not Mac Excel. I've passed
the feedback on this to the Windows team and they have said that they are
aware of the problem, but I don't know what their plans are for addressing
the issue. Have you tried the Windows Excel newsgroup?

Thanks,

Pat
