Zip Codes

When using an Excel data base to perform a mail merge in
MIcrosoft Word the zip code field drops the leading zero.
The only way I have found to correct this problem is to
change the zip code field to a text field and manually
add the zeros. Has anyone found a solution to this
problem?

I tried that and it still didn't work. The field
displays "0". Formatting excel as a zip code, the
formatting used to carry over in Word 2000. Any other
suggestions?

Word 2002 connects to its data source by OLEDB rather than the DDE
connection of Word 2002. If you revert to the older connection method as
described in the link, the formatting from the source will be carried
across. Otherwise Word has to provide the formatting to the raw data from
the source and instructions are also provided on how to do this. What is it
that doesn't work for you?

I will be going abroad tomorrow morning for several months and not
contributing to the groups, so if you need further input from me, you'll
have to come back today - or someone else will have to field your questions.
