Can't launch Entourage

J

jcruise

When I try to launch Entourage (Mac OS 10.4.10), the following message is displayed: "You do not have write access to the Entourage application folder. To run Entourage you must have the administrative user remove the Identities folder from the application folder. For more information, see the Entourage Read Me file.

There is not an Identities folder in the application folder, and there's no information in the Read Me file. Any suggestions?

When I try to launch Entourage (Mac OS 10.4.10), the following message is
displayed: "You do not have write access to the Entourage application folder.
To run Entourage you must have the administrative user remove the Identities
folder from the application folder. For more information, see the Entourage
Read Me file.

This is an error. The Identities is in the Documents folder.
There is not an Identities folder in the application folder, and there's no
information in the Read Me file. Any suggestions?

Did you recently upgrade to Leopard. There have been some issues with
permissions. See below for a fix. Also restart and run Repair Permissions.

Using Repair Permissions after installing MS Office or any application that
uses an installer is often advised. To use Repair Permissions:
1. Open Disk Utility in your Applications/Utility folder.
2. Click on the First Aid tab and select Repair Permissions
3. Click on the icon for your boot volume.
4. Click the repair permissions button.

Don't run from CD. Updates contain a newer versions of the application's
permissions.

Your Entourage Identity is stored in your User's Documents folder inside the
Microsoft User Data folder.

Permissions: (use Get Info to find settings)

Documents folder:
You: Read Write
Everyone: No access

Microsoft User Data folder
You: read write
Staff: read only
Everyone: read only

Office 2004 Identity folder
You: read write
Staff: read only
Everyone: read only

Leopard fix:

Boot to the Leopard install disk and from the Utilities menu select a user
account that needs its ACL's reset.
Then select the reset option at the bottom.
It is done when there is a faded Done button at the bottom and you can
select the hard drive and user name again and the reset button is available
again.
This only resets the top levels of the user directories but you should be
able to use the Get Info window to complete the changes by choosing to apply
to enclosed items.
