What in the world is going on here? I've deleted all the old messages
off the server, but this is happening with every incoming message.

Solution: Try using account with secure password selected and not selected.

In the Account window, select "Click here for advanced receiving options
button". Toggle "Always use secure password" Try to receive mail again.

I would test in a new Identity to rule out database problems. If the above
does not fix the problem.
