My mail download from Yahoo just stopped - it used to work fine and the yahoo account is active and paid.. I changed settings in Entourage many ways with no result. I even reinstalled Entourage. I can send but not receive my messages any more. I get -16999 when I remedy this error then I get -17897. When I follow the steps outlined under error -17897, then I get error -16999. It's like a vicious circle. Please help!!! Thanks.

It sounds like your preferences are not sticking. You could verify this by
creating a second User in System Preferences and test your Identity there.

1) Drag your Microsoft User Data folder to Shared.
2) Create a new User in System Preferences
3) Log into the new User and drag from Shared the Microsoft User Data
folder. (it copies)
4) Launch Entourage and be sure to set to leave on server for this test.
**remember to drag back after the test.

If it works correctly in the new User then you know it's your User's folder
preferences.

You might also need to....

1) Run Repair Permissions.

2) Download the combo updater from Apple and run it again rather than using
Software Update. Doing so overwrites potentially problem-causing files.
Combo updaters will install on the same version as they¹re applying‹no need
to roll back or do a clean install.

I did follow all the steps you outlined in your message but unfortunately nothing worked. Then, I thought of deleting the very next message in my yahoo inbox after the last download in entourage and it worked. I believe that there was a corrupt message preventing the download. Thank you very much for your help and time.

Your error working sometimes and not others certainly didn't indicate this
common problem. I'm glad you found a fix.

I use a free yahoo account. I am trying to set up my entourage so that it downloads messages from my yahoo mail box. It does not want to do it. I get a response that either my password or ID are incorrect but they are correct. What should I do?

I believe you have to have yahoo mail plus – you've to pay smtg to download your messages in entourage or any other exchange. Hope this helps!
