Why would I want to install a French language update?

True Brit

I have just installed Office 2003 and am already receiving updates. There
are 2 for French language translations, grammar and thesaurus. I don't
usually write in French.
So why would I need these updates?
However, I am confused because they are listed as "required".
My old computer told me which updates were critical and which were my
choice. This computer does not have any such indication.

The updates through http://officeupdate.com are intended to keep the entire purchased Office product complete and current, not just
the presently selected features/subset.

French, English and Spanish proofing tools are included
in the Office XP and 2003 product CDs.

To 'hide' any of the recommended updates you can use
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate which provides both Windows and
Office XP/2003 updates, rather than http://officeupdate.com
