2000 inserting slide from different presentation

We are trying to insert slides from various presentations in to an existing
file. When we do, the formating of the original presentation is overwritten
when inserted in to the file. Is there a way to keep the formatting of the
original slides?

This feature was built-in starting with PowerPoint 2002 (XP) and is also in
PPT 2003, but not 97 or 2000. Which version do you have? If the latter
