Yes, you can disable this functionality if your organization does not want
to use it. To disable this functionality, do the following:

1. Navigate to the Server Settings page and click the Project Web Access
Permissions link in the Security section of the page.
2. Deselect every permission that has the word "Timesheet" in its name and
then click the Save button.

This will disable the Timesheet functionality at the top level. You should
also hide the My Timesheet link in the Quick Launch menu as well by
completing the following steps:

1. Navigate to the Server Settings page and click the Quick Launch link in
the Look and Feel section.
2. Click the My Timesheets link to open it for editing.
3. Set the "Display link in Quick Launch" link to No and then click the
Save button.

Lastly, you will need to modify the Reminders web part to remove the
Timesheet reminders. To do this, complete the following steps:

1. Navigate to the Home page in PWA.
2. Click the Site Actions pick list menu in the upper right corner of the
page and click the Edit Page item.
3. In the Reminders web part, click the Edit pick list and select the
Modify Shared Web Part item.
4. In the sidepane on the right, expand the Project Web Access section.
5. Deselect each of the options that include the word "timesheet" in the
option's name.
6. Deselect the "Show administrative time off requests to approve" option
as well, as Administrative time requests require the Timesheet
functionality.
7. Click the OK button.
8. In the upper right corner of the page, click the Exit Edit Mode button
(DO NOT click the X button in the upper right corner of the Reminders web
part).

Hope this helps.

Your instructions below are excellent. Moreover, I would like to disable the
'Import Timesheet' from My Tasks page but I can't seem to figure out which
permission setting I have to turn off to accomplish this. Would you know how?

There's no way to disable that button or to hide it. You'll have to make it
a training and performance issue with your team members. Hope this helps.

Nope, that button cannot be disabled either...unfortunately. In every
version of Microsoft EPM, from Project Central to Project Server 2002, 2003,
and 2007, we have never been allowed to disabled the Delete button (called
Reject in previous versions). Because you cannot disabled the button, you
need to make this a training and performance issue with your team members
and project managers as follows:

1. Train your team members NOT to delete tasks. Instead, require them to
contact their PM in person, by phone, or by e-mail to indicate that they are
not able to perform a task, or are the wrong person assigned to the task.

2. Train your project managers to NEVER approve Delete Assignment Requests
on the Task Updates page. Stress that approving a Delete Assignment Request
will REMOVE the resource(s) from the selected task(s) with no Undo option
available.

Hope this helps.

Dale,

If the timesheet functionality is disabled, are there any consequences in
hiding the "Timesheet" and "Administrative Time" links under Approvals in the
Quick Launch menu? I am unaware of any other functions that they may control.

The only adverse consequence is that there is no way to disable the button
on the My Tasks page that imports Timesheet data. So, if a user clicks
that button, he/she will see a WSS page that says something like "Access
denied." Believe me, they will only do that once! :) Other than that, I
cannot think of any consequences, assuming of course, that you do not intend
to use any of the My Timesheet features. Hope this helps.

Dale - Is there any way to disable the "Personalize This Page" on the PWA
Home Page in Project Server 2007. We have some users who like to experiment /
test and we want to make sure that we have a standard HOME pages with no
personalize versions to resolve issues for.

Please advise..

Thank You.

There is no permission in the default settings in Project Server 2007, so I
suspect this permission can be found in SharePoint. Hope this helps.

Dale,

The reason I asked about these two links was that you excluded them in your
instructions for disabling the timesheet functionality, so I thought they
might serve another important role in the task updating process.

Thanks again,
Brian
