2007 Formating

I'm using 2007, and when I save a file as 2003, then later reopen the file,
it loses all its formatting (color, border, numbers, etc). It happens
randomly as best I can tell. Are there any settings in 2007 that I should
know about, or will service pack 1 fix this problem. Any insight would be
appreciated.
