a problem with office2000 on win2000

I have a client that I has windows 2000 on it He originally had win98 but we
reformated it and bought windows 2000 and put that on it. He also had office
97 and later had upgraded to office 2000 using an upgrade disk.
I reinstalled office 97 first because since it was an upgrade, 2000 would
not install without seeing an older copy. I also had burned a copy of sp3
from microsoft to update the security updates for office I did this as an
administrator and all went fine.

Last week he decided he wanted to allow his kids to go on the computer and
we created a user account for them. They needed to write a report and I
wanted to teach them how to use Word.

When I doubleclicked Word (this is on their side only) it came up with
Windows Installer trying to install win20000 sr-1, then bombed out with an
error msg saying it could not install. If you cancelled the installer before
it had a chance to bomb- Office 2000 loaded up just fine and showed it as
Office sr-3.

I even tried double clicking the document that we had saved after he wrote
in it and it again did the same thing and tried to install.

I then logged off this user account and went to the main account to see if
there was a problem on that side. That is the side that has administrator
rights. All was well there. Double clicking word worked with no problems.

I then went and checked to on his side to see if the kids had rights to use
Word- and they do. So I have not a clue what is going on here.

Can you help me please?

thanks
robin
