Activation and installation mix-up

I have bought a new PC with a trial version of office on. However I have a
copy of Office Professional Edition 2003 on CD. Have installed that.
However, when I go to Help in any of the Office programs and select
Activation it is still saying that this version will expire shortly. How can
I override this so that it recognises my legally bought copy?

You need to uninstall the trial version completely from your system and
then install the proper retail version.

It is not uncommon to find that you may need to clean your registry keys
as well. May I suggest have a look at this kb to see if it helps:
