activeX plugin problem

Using FrontPage as my editor I am teaching myself html using a book plus web
based example files. Utilising 'view and source' I have copied and pasted the
complete code an html example file into F.P. This file contains a video clip
using activeX controls. Viewing the file from source and on the net it
performs ok, no problem with activeX. When I attemt to view the imported file
as directed via 'web preview' the result is a warning 'Plugin was found but
an error in the plugin has occured' resulting in the video clip not running.
Source isbn 0-321-42333-x example ref page 294..and other consecutive pages.

There are many, many books written for FP, and you didn't name the book
you're using. It's a long shot that anyone that lurks in this newsgroup has
read the same book ;-)

Hello Tom. Thanks for replying, I've saved the site and will look in detail
later. What I was looking for is...is there a problem with F.P and activeX?

This looks like what I need, cheers Tom. I am regoing through the tutorial
book that I have and I'm sure it worked the first time I tried it. Since
then a security update affecting activeX has occurred. All I need to do now
is find my 'clever head' and read through the articles carefully. The
difference seems to me to be either the intanet or intranet. When on line I
open the file from Elizabeth Castro's examples the active X works, when I
download the file and try to view it in web-preview it fails. Would that
indicate that if I made up a web-page containing the code as is in the
example, put it on line as a web page, although I would not be able to view
as web-preview a third party using the web would be able to see it?

Other users viewing your site may or may not see it, you have no control of this even if you get to
work for you.

Hello Thomas.
Thanks for your reply, I am vaguely aware that different browsers can
sometimes give varying results. Ideally, I would like to see what I'm
attempting to produce, and also be satisfied that my efforts are reaching a
maximum audience with the minimum of fuss.
