Add "My Computer" to Office XP apps File | Open pane??

M

Mike

When I do File | Open in Word, XL or PPT, I get a pane that has icons for:
History, My Documents, Desktop, Favorites and My Network Places. Is it
possible to add "My Computer" to this pane? If so, how is it done? I have
tried dragging with no luck and right click does not have an add option.

Many thanks!

Hi Mike,

It depends on the version of Office you're using.
In Office XP or 2003 you can navigate to a folder
in File=>Open the use Tools=>Add to My Places
while the folder location you want to add is visible
in the 'Look In:' box in File=>Open.

Thanks for the information Bob. I can add a drive or folder via this
method however I can't seem to add My Computer. Am I missing
something? Thx!

Hi ~Von,

My Computer is one of the standard places.
Is there an arrow in the places bar to show
that you may need to continue down (off the
current displayed dialog to see more entries?

If you use RegEdit and go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Common\Open Find\Places
is it listed under Places=>Standard?

Hi Bob,

I use the small icon view so I can see them all and no My Computer. I
checked regedit in the location you mentioned and in the same location
in the "9.0" and there was no entry in either for My Computer. I tried
adding a "MyComputer" key following the same format as "MyDocuments"
however this didn't work when added to StandardPlaces or
UserDefinedPlaces. Any suggestions?

Many thanks!
