Add "TEST" to PWA Home Page

T

Tom Mitchell

Hi all,

I have the following two regions set up for MS Project Server 2003:

http://[servername]/projectserver (our production site)
http://[servername]/projectservertest (our testing region)

They both run off the same server.

What I'd like is to somehow identify the TEST region as just that.
Ideally, being able to add *** TEST ENVIRONMENT *** in big red letters
to the login and Web Access home pages if that's possible.

I've seen some posts talking about editing the Branding.gif or
PGHOME.gif images and substituting these for the originals. This
sounds good, but I'm worried that editing the home page or
substituting .gif files for the TEST region will also affect the
PRODUCTION pages. I can only find the necessary files in ONE location
on our server, c:\...\microsoft office project server 2003\iis virtual
root\images. If the pages for both regions use the images etc. from
this folder, won't modifying or substituting the image affect both
sites? Is there any way around this?

Many thanks in advance,
Tom

You could try copying the IIS Virtual Root Folder and then change the
folder used in IIS for ProjectServerTest.

I have tried doing this but unfortunately I am having a problem where
Project Pro doesn't want to work with this exact copy. Project Web
Access works fine though.

I would be interested in finding out if you run into the same problem.
However, this is the only idea I have for you.

Create a copy of the IIS Virtual Root and point the test site to that set of
files.
Use conninfo.exe to create the appropriate registry entries for the two
sites.
Don't forget to edit the PDS.WSDL file in the root folder for the test site!

Lars,

Have you done this with 2003? When I try to do this, I keep getting an
error message with Project Pro.

Operation failed.

You are attempting to connect to a Microsoft Project Central Server
which is not supported by this version of Project.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

In IIS, click on WebServiceExtensions and double-click the "Microsoft®
Office Project Server 2003 ISAPI" extension
Click on the Required Files tab and add an entry pointing to the
pjdbcomm.dll in the "copy of IIS Vrtual Root" folder - otherwise the dll
called is not allowed to execute.
Sorry I missed to mention that.
