Adding a field to a linked table

I am not sure what the best method might be. I am looking to add a field to
a linked table.

The original back end is copied to a different server on a regular basis.
The front end is linked to this copy of the back end. I would like to create
a table that contains the main table with an additional checkbox that woud be
saved in a new table.

I am still new to this and can't follow all of the previous strings. I
thought about using an Append query but then saw something about an Outer or
Left Join which looked like it might work.
