Adding assignments to Outlook tasks?

Greetings, Project Experts,

Is there a way to have Project 2002 automatically generate Outlook task
assignments for a Project task once that resource is assigned, without
having Project Server?

Thanks for your help!

Yes, well semi-automatically. The PM and each resource first runs the
file wgsetup.exe found on the Project CD to install the Outlook add-in
that allows it to understand messages coming from Project. Then the
workgroup tools in project allows the PM to send a Team Assignment
message to the resource(s). It comes into Outlook as an email assigning
the resource to his tasks which, when accepted by the resource, becomes
tasks in his Outlook task list, working very similar to task delegation
in Outlook. Check under Workgroup Tools in Help.

Steve,
I would like to use this feature also. What if some of the resources aren't running project on their machines? Is there a cost to add this wgsetup to their machines and will it allow them to view the tasks and return status?
Thanks,
Jim

No, they don't need Project to use this. WGSETUP.EXE is on the distribution
CD for Project or download from the MS Knowledgebase web site. Search on
"workgroup tools." You can freely distribute it to your resources at no
additional cost.
