Adding data to a task

Can you assign a value to a task that could be reported on to show the total
value of all like tasks and the total value of all tasks by project and for
all projects?
I would like to assign Square footage to a production task for each project
being tracked.

Try this.
From the insert menu select column.
Pick one of the unused number columns (say Number1)
Once it is inserted, right click on the column header.
Select customize fields
In the dialog box which comes up click on the radio button labeled "rollup"
and from the drop down box next to it select "sum"
Click OK

Now you can enter the square footage for whichever task you like.
When you have done that you will see the total for all tasks and summary
tasks.
If you want to see it by like tasks you can use the grouping feature to
group like tasks.
