adding specific cells

Is it possible to add only certain cells in a column? examples: only the
cells that are highlighted with a background color or bolded or underlined
etc.? I would like to manually identify certain numbers(in some way) in a
column and then add only those cells. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Excel has no built-in functionality to count or sum cells
based on formatting. It would require a macro or UDF.
You'll find plenty of examples in the google archives.

Search using keywords like "sum by color". Or, to make
life easier, simply use an identifier in a new column to
mark each cell you want to use. Then use SUMIF. For
example, let's say I want to sum only certain cells in
col. A. Each cell is marked with a "x" in the adjacent
cell in col. B. I can then use:

=SUMIF(B:B,"x",A:A)

to sum only those cells in col. A marked with "x".

You could use Format>Conditional Formatting to color your cells when they have
a certain value.

Then you could SUM the cells using the same values as you use for CF.

Alternative would use VBA code found at Chip Pearson's site.
