adding tasks in large plan

I have a large project plan (3691 lines) and am attempting to add additional
tasks. When I add a "New Task" to a section it automatically numbers it as
if I added to the task to the end of the section. Thus when I collapse the
section and re-open it, the newly added tasks appear at the bottom of the
section instead of the area where I inserted it. If I attempt to cut and
past a task the project plan from that point forward is deleted.

Any insight as to why this is happening would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mel,
OK, let's talk about your file structure. What do you mean by "a
section"? What "numbers" are you referring to (i.e. what field)?

A little more information will help us help you.

To have this new task be part of a summary or section as you called it: you
can drag and drop it between other task in that section. You should be able
to cut and paste also between 2 task in that section.
