Adding vertical, task or time driven lines on a Gantt

S

Sally

Hello,

During our projects there are three or four critical phases after which
other tasks commence. While these tasks are linked to milestones, we always
end up hand-drawing coloured lines on the printed Gantts to visually show the
phases. Manually drawing lines on the Gantt is very clumsy for this purpose
(Multiple vertical lines required, lining them up, manually moving them if
the date changes, etc.)

Can I create vertical lines (similar to the Status date) that are task or
time driven that display the top to bottom of the project?

One way would be to use the progress lines. Right click on gantt chart,
select progress lines and "display selected progress lines". Then set the
progress line dates that you want. They can be moved, deleted etc easily

Thank you for replying,

This solution begins to address the solution for me but I am not sure how to
force the line to give me a vertical line rather than a line that tracks task
data. Is there a way to make this line ignore tasks?

What information causes the status line to divert to some tasks and not
others? all my actual work done = 0

Thanks, Sally.

Use the draw toolbar to draw a line on the Gantt chart. Once you have the
line, right click on it and select properties. Then use the attach to
timeline drop down to attach it to a date, or attach it to a particular task
so that it moves as task dates move - a rare occurrence!

Thank you for replying once again.

Per my original post, I am looking for these lines to be viewed throughout
the project Gantt. i.e from top to bottom. (Like the date line) Line
properties only allow me to draw 22" (i.e. 2 11x17 sheets when printed 100%)
My projects are typically many, many sheets.

Adding, duplicating, joining additional lines are a real pain.

Sorry to be a little short but a touch frustrated with this aspect. : )

Now you are just trying to get me to think. One way I can see to get a longer
than 22' line is to insert > Object> Paintbrush picture. Then draw a line.
You can now stretch it to any length that you like, however you are back to
lining it up and manually moving them - you don't have to hand draw them
though so you are a bit better off. If I come up with anything else I will
post it.
