Adjusting the server timeouts setting - What does this do?

The server timeouts setting in Outlook is set to one minute by
default.

What does increasing this setting do?

I have been having this error message "Reported error (0X800CC0F) the
connection to the server was interrupted"
Increasing this setting seems to have resolved it.
