Adjusting the size of a table

I created a table and now I need to adjust the size (make it smaller). When
I drag the table to make it smaller when I let go of the mouse click it
automatically resizes it back to the original size. If I go to the
properties of the table and make the changes there, it automatically
readjusts to the original size. It acts as if there is a lock preventing the
table from adjusting. How do I go about adjusting the width and height of
the table.

You will need to adjust the text size within the table to a smaller point
size to allow the table to be resized down.
