I recently upgraded to Outlook from MS Outlook Express. I've tried this update
upon each new release of Outlook, but always wind up going back to OE because
it's just quicker/more efficient for me.
I'm trying to commit to Outlook 2003 this time around, however, I'm pulling my
hair out every time I need to find something in my archives. This problem is
driving me absolutely nuts because search functionality is so critical, yet
Outlook just appears to have so many problems with what should be a relatively
straightforward feature.
For example, if I search my imported OE messages in Outlook - after first
verifying the target messages exist in both - OE will always find the message
matching my search criteria, where Outlook only does so about 20% of the time -
primarily it doesn't work when searching the full body. Further, it's extremely
slow compared to OE. Much worse, the "Advanced Find" dialog is just counter
intuitive and far more difficult than it needs to be. In OE, I quickly can
select a criteria of date - between any two dates quickly. In Outlook, I have
the option of a couple fixed periods (a week ago, a month ago, etc) and an
exceptionally laborious custom criteria that I can use.
If anyone has any ideas as to a third party tool, workaround, etc - that will
allow me to quickly and correctly search through Outlook for historical
messages, please let me know. I'm referring to ad-hoc searches, so something
like Nelson won't work for me.
I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I've searched through the Deja
archives for MS Outlook groups and couldn't find anything mentioned.
Thank you in advance,
-Bob
