After installing Student 2007, Word no longer opens! Help!

We installed Microsoft Student 2007 in order to assist our children with
homework. Instead of helping us, it locked up our version of Word (2000) and
it is no longer accessible. We tried deleting the entire program and
reinstalling Microsoft Office, but it still doesn't work. Tech support on
phone was no help. (The Microsoft Student 2007 box did not indicate that a
newer version of Office was required!) Now we only want to get the computer
back the way it was!
