After last major update, Word is locking up! I updated!

How can I fix this issue? I am locking up Word everytime I try to "open" a
folder from within the program or even if I try to "save as!" Any ideas? I
did go through the Office 2003 update process, rebooted and checked again. I
was informed I was up to date.
