All permissions became corrupt in secured DB

C

Cedric Thiery

When trying to open this database, I get the error "You do not have the
necessary permissions to use the 'Path\Database.mdb' object. Have your system
administrator or the person who created this object establish the appropriate
permissions for you."

I created this database a couple of years ago, with user-level security,
using a MDW file which I created for that purpose (other databases also use
that same MDW file, and work correctly). For the past 2 years, a dozen users
have been connecting to the database on a daily basis, without any issue.

I get the above error message regardless of the username I use to connect
(whether it is the Administrator for that workgroup, or any kind of user). I
can't even open the database, which means I can't export the tables.

I have a one month-old backup of this database, and I can open it using the
same MDW file, so I guess the MDW file is OK, but the permissions within my
production database became corrupt.

I can't compact and repair the database with the standard tool. I've tried
to compact it with the JetComp.exe utility. My database, which is about 52
Mb, then compacts to a database of only 1048 kb, and I still get the same
error message when trying to open it.

I understand that the dbUtilities 1.1 at
http://www.daiglenet.com/MSAccess.htm is of no use either, because I can't
even open my database to read the permissions.

Any help or hint will be most welcome. Losing an entire month of work is not
a lot of fun!
Thanks,
Cedric.
