Whatever software you used to create the animated gif....somewhere in that software you can set how many times to gif
will loop. Set it to none or 0 or 1
Are you using PowerPoint 2000? It ignores the switch in the GIF that says
how many times the animation is to be played and will always loop it
continuously. This was fixed in PowerPoint 2002. The only work around that

Sorry, did not see original post. More important is what version of PPT is
being used. Not all versions recognize the Gif headers and will only loop
endlessly.
