animation in PowerPoint

New to Powerpoint - can't find the "Animation" bar. All it shows is "No
Animation"

Drew,
Assuming that you are using PPT 2002 or later, what you are seeing is the
Animation Task Pane. It won't show animations until you add some. To add
animations, select an object on the slide. Then you should be able to add
animations using the button at the top of the task pane.

If you aren't using PPT 2002 or later, give us your version and more
information and we'll try to give a more appropriate answer.

What version are you using. Animation varies quite a bit from version to
version. Try right-clicking on an object and choosing Custom Animation.
That should get you started in any version.
