Animation question

Is there a way I can have two (2) custom animations start at the same time,
but not finish at the same time? I am attempting to have the process come up
in sequential steps but would like the object being "processed" to follow
along as it goes through the process. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If using PPT 2002+ this is fairly easy. Is this one object with two
animations or two objects each with its own animation?

If 1 object:
- Open the Custom Animation Pane
- Apply the desired animations to object
- Have the second animation start WITH PREVIOUS
- Have the second animation be a slower time (ie. if 1st = FAST, make 2nd =
MEDIUM). To further adjust click to SHOW THE ADVANCED TIMELINE. From here
you can manually drag the animation time to any length

If 2 objects:
- Open the Custom Animation Pane
- Apply the desired animation to each object
- Have the second animation start WITH PREVIOUS
- Have the second animation be a slower time (ie. if 1st = FAST, make 2nd =
MEDIUM). To further adjust click to SHOW THE ADVANCED TIMELINE. From here
you can manually drag the animation time to any length
