applets and frames

Internet explorer IE7 will not work with applets and or Frames on pages
created with FrontPage 2003

Works fine for me. You must have a setting on your PC that's not allowing
you to see it or you don't have a JVM (Java Virtual Machine) installed. Try
looking at it from another PC

M

Murray

I only see an ugly gray box - the same as most people on the web will see
(since the number of web surfers who have actually downloaded and installed
the Java engine is quite small).

Must you use this Java thing?

M

Murray

And by the way, there are no frames there.

Can you tell us again what the question is, then?

K

Kurt Knoll

You are absolutely right. I did download the java viritual machine and it
works. Therefore my question now would be" if I did have a commercial web
site, How many people who will see pictures where applets are being used".

Probably not many...only people willing to download JVM (or willing to
use/enable it) will see it.
Dunno what the stats are on JVM current usage, you may be able to find
figures by using Google.

Gotta add this; my new laptop that Santa brought this morning did have JVM
installed which surprised me. 152meg though

Good luck to you. I went into computing about 1978. Bought a North Star
advantage computer with a 5 meg hard driver for about 16 grants. went into
Programming "Dbase" and wrote all my business applications. My first Laptop
was a Toshiba for about 5 grants. have not stopped since and I am still in
it as a retire "74" have established a web site strictly about photography
and it is at www.kurtknoll.com/midway.html

Join the club. As a kid my xmas percents mostly metal toys did never last
longer then a day. My habit was taking anything apart to see what
inside.Later on I became self employed as a business man and electronic
technician. If there was something I could not fix because of parts the
customer said I did **** it up.

Was that the same as the Commodore 64 ? With all 64KB of RAM !!

A friend of mine bought one for an exorbitant $AUS799 and lent it to me for
a while. I think he didn't know how to use it much (it programmed in BASIC)
and hoped that I might buy it off him. I used it a bit, and my son and I (I
think he was 16 or 17 - he is now nearly 38) wrote a few Mickey Mouse
programs - and saved them to tape !!

I had had some programming experience (I wasn't actually a professional
programmer at that stage of my career) but my son only used what he had
learnt at college (years 11 and 12 here in Australia).

The first PC I bought was an Amstrad. It was an IBM PC XT clone. It ran at
something like 6 mHZ (using MS/DOS ver 2.0 ?) and had a large amount of
RAM - I can't remember, was it as much as 1 MB ?? The hard disk was also
huge - 20MB. And a great 600*480 px B&W CRT monitor. Supplied software was:
NONE . The vendor threw in some programs including a great DOS word
processor.

Of course, read all adjectives such as "large" huge" "great" with the
proverbial pinch of salt
Also a photog
What do you mean by this line ?

Ah yes, I remember
Also the BBC and the Acorn. And the Tandy.

I can see how the Tandy woudl still be useful. With a decent sized keyboard
and powered by AA batteries, it would be great for typing notes in the
field.

I guess the Commdore 64 was an attempt at creating a smaller PC. It did not
have any VDU - you had to plug it into the aerial socket of a TV. It was a
liitle smaller than the cordless keyboard I am now typing on, although a lot
thicker. I'll see if it is on the museum site.

When you wrote "Also a photog" I didn't know whether you were referring to a
photo (which wasn't in the post) or what. Perhaps it was a reference to
earlier in the thread (which I hadn't read)

My personal opinion is that Java only has a use on the web when it provides
a necessary functionality, not when it only provides a cosmetic effect.
And, it DEFINITELY should not be used for navigation elements....

I have a hunch there was a copyright infringement somewhere. Could this be
the reason why Microsoft omitted java ege applet support in IE7

Java support has not been omitted in IE7.
It will support Java that you install.
