apply new calendar template to resource

S

Shayna Gavin

Hello, I'm new to MS project 2003 and couldn't find an answer to this on your
discussion board.
i have created a new calendar template, and now want to apply it to a
resource. I chose the new calendar template in the resource information
window and saved that change. But when I look at the hours that resource is
working they don't match those specified in my new calendar template.
Have I missed something?
I've been through the help sections on the website, the program, my 'for
dummies book', and your recent questions after searching for 'calendar'.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Have you manually set hours in the resource calendar? Try selecting a number
of days and clicking the Default option. Those days should then match the
base calendar.

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Have you got calculation set to Automatic in Tools/Options/Calculation tab?

Hello Rod
Thanks for trying to help!
I tried to create a whole new calendar with the 24 hour week, and then apply
it to a resource, rather than manually change the resource's hours.

When I chose the new calendar for the resource, only some of the work time
changes on the new calendar came through.
Does that make sense? (the new calendar was for 8 to 2.30pm every day except
for no work on wednesdays, and when I applied it to the resource it came up
as those hours every day).

Maybe I just need to be patient and manually enter all the hours for the
resource?

Thanks

Shayna

Hello Mike

Thanks for your help.

Yes it is set to automatic.

I think I may be trying to do something that Project doesn't like!

I have also replied with some more detail to Rod who offered a suggestion.

Thanks for your help

Hi Shayna,

Pardon me for jumping in. When you created the new calendar for the
resource, did you select the column headings (M, T, TH, F) and change
the working hours from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm? Then select the W column
heading to select all Wednesdays and choose Non-working time.

Unless you selected by the column headings, you have not changed all the
working days.

Then in the Resource Sheet View, make sure you select the new calendar
from the Base Calendar column for the resource.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
