Archive email with receive date as none

How can I archive mail without a receive date. Outlook
requires that one specify a date when archiving. An old KB
entry pertaining to OL97 claims this was resolved in OL98,
but I have OL02 and have this problem.

It archieves on the Modified Date; not the received date

All of the messages that failed to archive have a
received date as "None". If I do modify a message, which
would conceivably alter the modified date, it still
doesn't archive. And I've got hundreds of such messages,
so I wouldn't want to individually modify them anyway.
How can I archive them?

Move them manually. The fact that they didn't got archived after the
modified date is probably because your AutoArchive is not set on todays
date.
