archive issues

Hi Everyone. Hope there is someone out there who may be
able to give me some guidance. For some reason, I've
noticed since upgrading to WinXP Pro that MS Outlook is
creating a large number of archive folders which appear
on the left side of my screen, above the "Outlook Today -
[Personal Folders}" area. I am hestiant to delete them.
I am not sure if I can even. It is EXTREEEEEEEMLY
confusing as to what these are and what to do with them.

I've looked on the MS Outlook Help and checked on theMS
website but have not found anything about this.

Should I just turn off the Auto Archive function? Is it
really worth all this effort -- I seem to have to do
manual back ups of important files anyhow. Friends have
told me that working with the PST files is a frustrating
and ultimately useless exercise.

Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? Thanks for your help.

I've seen this before. Check each folder properties
(right click on the folder and go to properties), check
the AutoArchive tab and see if it is using global
AutoArchive settings or if it has it's own. If it has
it's own, set them to the global settings option and set
it up in the TOOLS > OPTIONS > OTHER > AutoArchive
section, and applyto all folders.

Failing that - disable autoarchive.

i guess it is global. but I'm not seeing individual
settings. I'll probably just disable the autoarchive
feature since it seems to be more problematic than
helpful.

Do you think i can just make a copy of my PST files to a
CDR and then delete them from my hard drive? Or will
that be one of those mysterious things that we shouldn't
remove simply because no one knows what else it might
impact? Many computer specialists have told me on other
aspects of MS programs to just leave things alone...

Thanks again for the help!

Have you tried simply closing the Archive folders by right clicking the root
folder of each and selecting Close from the menu? This won't delete the
files from the drive, it will just close them out of Outlook. What version
of Outlook are you using, by the way?
