archiving completed projects

We're running project and project server 2003, and trying to figure out
an archiving strategy. Our goals at the moment are to:
a) retain a copy of the project
b) still prevent it from showing up in the list when we go to open a
project and
c) keep the project and its related tasks from showing up on the
server's web access

While reading the archives and old similar messages I found two
interesting recommendations:
~ storing the information on backup tape and CDs
~ somehow "hiding" the files within project, so that they'd still "be
there" but not show up on lists.

Can someone please explain in more detail how to do either of those,
that would be excellent. Also, still not sure how to acheive (c).
Thanks for the assist.

Hi Kim,

Try posting on the server newsgroup. Please see FAQ Item: 24. Project
Newsgroups. FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information
can be seen at this web address: http://www.mvps.org/project/.

Thanks for pointing out another good research resource.
I think this question is also relevant to this group, though, since
prior to posting my question, searching within this group for
"archiving" returned about 10 results and "archive" returned 67. Many
of those posts asked similar questions, but most were not answered.

Maybe the question was not clear enough, which is why you don't think
it's relevant. So let me restate it more clearly:
Is there a way to hide .mpp files, period. In project professional,
when I click File > Open, I don't want all my old, finished projects to
show up in the dialogue box. An earlier post suggested that one can
"hide" old files without removing them - how does one do that?
Will backing up a project to a CD or Tape affect the project's
information in any way? Specifically (but not limited in scope to)
actual hours, assigned resources, and the project timeline.

OK. Kim. Whne you click File/Open, the dialof opens in the directory where
the files are stored. This is controlled via Tools/Options.../Save tab/File
locations. So just move the file to a different directory or move it to a
CD.
