Assigned Resource in Pro & Server cannot see assignment in Web Acc

I made resource assignments in a published project, saved them, closed project, reopened it and they were present. When logged on to Web Access as that resource could not see assignments. However, could assign tasks to myself that were alreadly listed as assigned to me but not in my tasks. Surely each resource does not have to reassign tasks to themselves that the project manager has already assigned in Pro and server? When I defined the resource as Enterprise Resource, the Web Access account was set up automatically. I updated the resource account with all default template values at lowest level as Team Member. What is missing? I hope I get an accurate answer faster than other questions I've seen listed in this area. Thanks

You have to actually publish the assignments before they are visible on the
View My Tasks page. To publish the assignments, you must click either
Collaborate - Publish - New and Changed Assignments or Collaborate -
Publish - All Information. Hope this helps.

Thank you that was great. Now the resource cannot edit the task fields. She is an Enterprise Resource and Pro created the Web Access account. I updated it with team member template permissions with My tasks category.
Also I enter and save notes in Pro and not visible in Web Access and vice versa.
Tried to link self-assigned task to issue, but error says the task is a newly created task that has not been approved by the mgr, but the admin approved it.
Can you separately export project info from task info?
Where does it describe task 1st column icons?
Resource has permission to view issues, but cannot submit one, which permission is that?
Sorry for so many questions, I have a Monday morning deadline and never imagined so many differences in Pro and web access.

You have many, many questions. I'm not sure I have time to address all of
your questions in depth, so I would strongly recommend that you purchase a
book on Project Server to give you the background you need on the proper use
of this tool. I will shamelessly refer you to the book our company wrote on
Project Server 2002, available by clicking the link in my address block. In
addition, Microsoft offers free curriculum on Project Server 2002, available
for download at:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/project/project2002/training/prj02trn.mspx

In either case, you are going to need to spend a lot of time becoming
familiar with the enterprise environment of Microsoft Project Server. Now,
let me briefly address your questions:

1. What task fields do you want the resource to update? This is controlled
by the default method of tracking progress set by the Project Server
administrator.

2. Task notes entered by the PM in the project plan are not visible to team
members, however, task assignment notes entered by team members are visible
to the PM's.

3. The project manager must actually approve a new task before the team
member assigned can attach Risks, Issues, or Notes.

4. Both the book and the free curriculum document the indicators on the
View My Tasks page.

5. What happens when a resource attempts to add an Issue to a task? Does
the resource get an error message?

Hope these brief answers help.

How are you exporting data? What method are you using?

Dale,
Thanks. I have downloaded the docs. I have one specific issue. I am
exporting data to another system. If Notes are added in Web Access, how do
I make them part of the export file along with other info like Task Name,
Actual Work, etc. How do I see them in Project Server? Thanks very much

Dale,
I am using the Export Wizard to export to a SQL table using ODBC. Is there a better way that gets enterprise custom fields and notes along with the regular ones? I tried going directly into the SQL Tables but there is a lot of columns unnecessary to my needs and I do not know how to find related enterprise custom field nor notes.

In the Export Wizard, you should select the "New map" option on the Map
page. When you click the Next button, this takes you to the Map Options
page. Select the Task option (plus the Resource and/or Assignment options
if you need them). On the Task Mapping page, select the exact fields you
wish to export and click the Next button. If you select the Resource or
Assignment options, again you should select the exact fields you wish to
export. Click the Next button and then click the Save Map option. This
will allow you to quickly reuse the Map the next time. Hope this helps.

Dale,
I apologize for not being clear. In PWA the user enters notes. I cannot see those notes using Export Wizard you mention below. I need to get Actual Work and notes into another system. How do I export notes entered in PWA? Thanks.

When a team member submits Actual Work and inserts a Note on a task
assignment in PWA, you must actually approve the task update, which "pushes"
the Acutal Work value into the Actual Work field and the text of the Note
into the Notes field for the task in the Microsoft Project plan. You can
then export Actual Work value and the text of the Note from the Microsoft
Project plan into Excel using the Export Wizard. Hope this helps.

Work values are exported to Access at 1,000 times the number of minutes in
the Work value. Eight hours of work in Microsoft Project exports to Access
as 8 x 60 x 1000 = 480,000. I wrote about this subject in chapter 18 of
"Special Edition: Using Microsoft Project 2002" published by Que. If you
have this book, you might look up how Microsoft Project exports data to a
variety of applications. Hope this helps.

Dale,
Thanks. I am exporting Actual Work to Access and the exported value is
60000 times greater (12 hrs = 720000). All other values are fine, although
Actual Work is the only numeric data. What do I need to change? Thanks
again.

You have been immensely helpful. I hate to let you go, but I guess I'll stop this thread and ask my project questions of some other folk. Thanks again for your prompt answers.
