Assigning a calendar to one task

The base calendar for my project uses an 8 hour workday. I have one task (a
lab test) which will run 24 hours a day. For that task only, I went to Task
Information/Advanced and assigned a 24 hour calendar. I entered a duration
of 48 hours for the task. If I understand correctly, Project should show the
task taking 2 work days (24 hours per workday x 2 days = 48 hours). However,
Project shows it taking 6 work days, which implies that it's still using an 8
hour workday for that task (8 hours a day x 6 days = 48 hours). How do I get
that task to use a 24 hour workday?

Thanks,

Hi,

It "shows"...
Where?
Have you looked at start and finish times?
They will reflect 48 hrs as per your calendar: planning will be OK
But when Project says "days" it is hours divided by what is put into Tools,
Options, Calendar, Hours per day: independent from the calendar
Hope this helps,

Jan - Thank you for your response. When I said "it shows the task taking 6
work days", I meant that the start and finish times are 6 work days apart,
when they should be 2 work days apart.

I just went to Tools/Options/Calendar and changed Hours per Day to 24 and
Hours per Week to 120. The Start and Finish dates are still 6 work days
apart...
