Assigning Categories

Hello

I would like to assign a newly created category to a number of emails.
These are located in various subfolders within one main folder.

Is there a way for me to assign a category to all emails in every subfolder
within a folder? Or do I have to assign every subfolder and all emails
separately?

I know I can "select all" emails within a subfolder and assign the category
to all those, but I am wanting to assign this new category to thousands of
emails. Surely there must be a way to select a folder and tell Entourage to
apply the category to the folder and all of its contents, including
subfolders?

Grrrr.... Seems like such a simple intuitive function to offer, but I can't
find it.

Any help or suggested workarounds would be greatly appreciated!

Joe.

Hey, great workaround. Worked like a treat!

Still, you'd think the functionality to do what I wanted in a more intuitive
fashion would have been programmed into Entourage a long time ago.
Nevertheless, I'm happy - this has saved me an hour if not more.

Personally, I would just create a custom view to gather them up, then
apply the category to all matching messages:

1. From the Entourage menu bar, choose File > New > Custom View.
2. Set the custom view to:
Name: Whatever
Item Types: Messages
Location: This Folder: __________ [x] Include subfolders
Criteria: Is not junk email
3. Click OK.
4. In the folder list, select Mail Views > Whatever. Now you have a list
of all the messages in all subfolders of your folder.
5. From the menu bar, choose Edit > Select All.
6. From the menu bar, choose Edit > Categories > Assign Categories.

Done deal.
