Assigning Groups of resources to tasks

L

LDR

Hi

If I assign more than one individual resource to a task, MS Project
schedules assuming that the resources can work independantly of one another.

How can I assign more than one resource to a task and indicate that those
resources need to work as a group on that task, for example if one resource
is on holiday then the task can't continue (with the other resources) until
that one returns from holiday?

Hope someone can help me on this one!

Hi LDR,

You could create a specific calendar for that resource group, and assign
this calendar to each of these resources.
If you add a holiday in that calendar, every resource using this calendar
will benefit from this holiday.
Hope this helps,

Hi,

If the holidays are individual, and you enter them through the resource
calendar, THERE IS NO SOLUTION, sorry. Shame, shame, shame, but that is how
it is.

There is a (lengthy) workaround; you can find all about it on my website

and click through to "An abstract on Microsoft Project"

Hi

For solving such a problem, I normally create these resources as one. e.g on
construction projects, an excavator would come with its crew including
driver, helper etc. and they all work together. So, I make a resource
'excavator with crew' instead of keeping all as separate resources. The cost
is also given for the group per day/hr as applicable.

I hope it helps.
