Assigning Resources . . . Is it possible

I am setting up a production schedule and i would like to be able to
assign some of the equipment as a resource so it does not become
overbooked. If i have machine A and machine B and Machine C some task are
only able to be done on machine A Some only on B etc. Some operations are
able to run on either machine A, b or C. can I group these machines or
assign them is some way that project will automaticly schedule the one that
has the most open time.
